LOL. So, that is what it is: an imitation of the Elizabethan sport of bear and bull baiting . Christianity is a historical event. |

The (merely) historical Jesus is a recent invention of the past few centuries. This Jesus was originally an anti-Christian invention of Deists and humanists, meant to cut the god Jesus down to size for a civilization that had stopped believing in the supernatural. But Christians, who do not believe in a merely historical Jesus, appropriated this historical Jesus. And in the meantime, the Quest for the historical Jesus started to collapse under the weight of its own illogic. |

Lots of attention is given to nonsense topics. As for the mythical Jesus position, it draws less attention than the theory that ancient Aliens built the pyramids. You can't get through a week of the strangely named History Channel without being treated to the ideas of someone calling himself an "Ancient Alien Theorist". Nonsense sells.
As for myself, I don't care whether Jesus existed or not. I am offended however as a skeptic when folks trot out convoluted theories supporting the proposition that nothing is as it seems and it has recently been discovered that the man Jesus didn't exist at all. In a thousand years Holocaust Denial will be equally credible. No remaining witnesses, all of the documents have been changed to support the myth. Steve |
