“Some say the Latin has a Christian interpolation here, but why should a Christian insert the name Iesous into a reference to the “dying messiah (of whom we learn more from Rabbinic Judaism) without rearranging the other details such as the 400 year reign between the messiah’s advent and death?
In fact the 400 years is so jarring that it was altered to a less galling 30 years in the Syriac version.

The issue is not really about interpolation IIUC the Eastern version read instead of the Latin my son Jesus the following

my son the Messiah Syr Arab(part)
my Messiah Ethiop
the Messiah Arab(part)
the Messiah of God Arm

probably the original was my son the Messiah which was changed in various ways in different versions. In the Latin my son the Messiah was apparently changed by a Christian copyist or translator to my son Jesus

Wow, Jake, that's a lot of information. Thanks! In lookin for signs of "Messiac/Logos" ideas among Jewish thought in the 1st century, the less signs of later Christian influence the better.

thanks again,

Hi Andrew,

OK, I see what you are saying. Good point, I must agree.
