According to the book of Acts, Peter had a vision in which God said it was now o.k. to eat just about anything (Acts 10).
One of my favorite apologetics!

Anyways, in the great Assumptions Game where you score the most points by stretching the text to your historical/mythical Junior--also extra credit for using terms such as kerygma, parousia, and sitz im leiben--this make me wonder if the historical Junior did adhere strictly to the rules.

However, Mk does not seem as concerned with it problem. Who knows?

Au contraire mon frere! (Don't try to Frenchie me back 'cuz that's about all I got)

Mark does appear concerned about this topic. So much so that he makes an effort to portray the disciples as entirely misunderstanding Jesus' views on it. The author appears to me to be arguing against Jewish Christians with this depiction and winning that argument seems to be one of his primary concerns when he wrote the story.

Merde!

To avoid this degenerating into seventeen pages of parsing "concern" ala the previous parsing of "embarrassment"--Mk does not continuously berate the Hapless Ones for a concern about eating rituals--the disciples do not ask Junior about it. However, Mk does berate them for not recognizing Junior as a "son of a god"--whatever that means for Mk--which--again playing the Great Assumption Game--suggests that whatever he confronted--traditions, actually remnants of the Jerusalem Group--did not consider Junior a "son of a god."

He portrays Peter as recognizing Jesus to be the Messiah but failing to understand the dying/resurrecting stuff. I don't think there is any indication they didn't accept/understand Jesus as the Son of God. Are you still giddy over the Patriots' victory or something?

I think Vinnie is attempting to address this subject in his similarly themed thread. It may be the end to our recent bout of agreement.

Why aren't Christians Kosher?
Because they don't chew their cud and don't have cloven hooves.

Thanks.
Christians don't keep kosher because they don't like the laws of the Torah so they make up meaningless apologetics like this....

This kind of reasoning has no basis in reality. There is nothing in the Torah that says if someone obeys all the rules of the Torah that will "fullfill" the laws and people no longer have to obey them. Jews know the laws can't be fullfilled. The Torah says they are to be obeyed forever. By saying the laws are no longer needed, christians prove that jesus was a false prophet and jesus has no connection to the god of the Torah. It makes no sense to say that god is going to care about all these rules, and then because jesus obeys them all people don't need to follow them anymore. I suppose god doesn't care about that pesky "thou shalt not kill" rule anymore since jesus "fullfilled" it.

Besides, jesus did not keep the laws of the Torah. He worked on the sabbath, spoke against the dietary laws and changed lots of rules of the Torah.

Oh Ye of little stomach....jelly for nerves...and tolerant of only tolerance....

I was right on topic...trying to point out the absurdity of such a topic....

....but yeah that was pretty offensive...sorry
'bout that.

No, thank you for keeping humor at the minimum. Can't have funnies slipping into a serious discussion about what God wants us to eat and crap out.....

Seriously though,

There are Kosher Christians....7th Day Adventists. Church on Saturday, strict dietary laws, OT governed relationships, Patriarchal....

I guess they are now called Primitive Baptists.

A famous group that split from them was David Koresh's Branch Davidians. But that's a long story that starts in the mid-to-late 19th century America....

A lot of Messanic and Apocolyptic non-denomonational Christians do follow OT laws to some extent. Even dietary laws....

Mainly because Paul was on the recruiting trail and that Kosher crap wasn't flying. It does make you wonder why an infallible being ever had to change his rules. But if not for this, given the constraints of Judiasm as seen in the OT, we'd probably never have seen the great rise of Christianity. And we'd be sitting around harping about Thor or Zeus, those wacky bastards.
