Calzaer,

I think we can safely say that pirates are universal, both in location and time, so they wouldn't have to be native.

If you want European equivalents just substitue Knight for Samurai and Assasin for Ninja.

I think that my point in the ninja-samurai comparison will have to be thus: you can dress up in black P-Js and "flip out" all you like, but the second two of you team up, your combat effectiveness is fully halved. Three or more and you're certified cannon fodder (or, really, fodder for any attack.)

Samurai can at least hold their own in one-on-one AND in groups. There's no "inverse samurai rule" after all.

Being the shallow, sexually-obsessed man that I am, I gotta go with the pirates.

Sure, ninjas are cool for sneaking around and throwing stars into people's foreheads, but when's the last time you saw one at a really good party, surrounded by hot women?

Samurai? Yeah, it would be neat to have the sword and the honor code and all, but I just imagine some severely repressed concubine with her lord on top of her thinking "jeez, I wish he'd stick himself with his own sword for a change!"

Pirates all the way, baby! Pillage! Plunder! Large flagons of grog!

Oh, and BIG plus for the pirates...no pesky "I've got to kill myself if I fuck up" rules. Pirate makes a mistake? No big deal...just lay low, wait for the heat to blow over, then its back to pillage and plunder!
