In many places, beer was probably safer to drink, since many water sources were contaminated by *eek* human and animal feces.

You should not forget that the catholic priests drink red wine during the mass. "This is my blood". And that our ancestor Noah was a bloody drunkard. Wine or beer ?

This was back before the cans had pop-tops, wasn't it? Jesus and his merry men must have included church keys in their kit. Perhaps this has something to do with the term "church key."
