See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck

I will NOW expose your DUCK problem.

Please open the Bible you Believe is history.

Mark 9

Please IDENTIFY your Duck. There were Multiple Ducks or Multiple things that looked like Ducks in YOUR history book of the Son of the Ghost.

Mark 13
Quote:
And Jesus answering them began to say , Take heed lest any man deceive you: 6For many shall come in my name, saying , I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Jesus, the Son of the Ghost and Water walker, PREDICTED that there would be MANY FAKE Ducks.

Philo's Therapeutae were NOT the Ducks in the Bible.
I was actually going to mention this

You don't even know what you are talking about. You seem not to be aware of Greek/RomaN Mythology.

Myths were Begotten of Virgins.

A Christian writer ARGUED that the Jesus story was like Roman Mythology.

There is really No difference between the Myth Fables in the Gospels and the Myth Fables of the Sons of Jupiter.

Dialogue with Trypho LXVII
Quote:
..Moreover, in the fables of those who are called Greeks, it is written that Perseus was begotten of Danae, who was a virgin...
First Apology 21
Quote:
And when we say also that the Word, who is the first-birth of God, was produced without sexual union, and that He, Jesus Christ, our Teacher, was crucified and died, and rose again, and ascended into heaven, we propound nothing different from what you believe regarding those whom you esteem sons of Jupiter.

Default Map of Mariout Lake

Hi DCHindley et al,

Thanks for this information:

Quote:
1:21b and there is the greatest number of such men in Egypt, in every one of the districts, or nomi as they are called, and especially around Alexandria;

πλεονάζει (it superabounds) δὲ (on the other hand) ἐν (in) Αἰγύπτῳ (Egypt) καθ᾽ (according to) ἕκαστον (every single) τῶν (of the) ἐπικαλουμένων (being said) νόμων (nomes) καὶ (and) μάλιστα (especially) περὶ (around) τὴν (the) Ἀλεξάνδρειαν (Alexandria).

1:22a and from all quarters those who are the best of these therapeutae proceed on their pilgrimage to some most suitable place as if it were their country,

1:22a οἱ (the) δὲ (but) πανταχόθεν (from every direction) ἄριστοι (best) καθάπερ (just as) εἰς (into) πατρίδα (fatherland/hometown) θεραπευτῶν (Therapeutae) ἀποικίαν (colony)

1:22b which is beyond the Mareotic lake, lying in a somewhat level plain a little raised above the rest,
Here is the Mareotic Lake near Alexandria where the Theraputae made pilgrimage.

I do not see how this Egyptian cult centered in Alexandria is connected to Christianity, except that certain early Christian writers might have pretended an association because of the favorable description that Philo gives of it.

Reading Paul's description of Christian meetings shows they were nothing like the Therapeutae in temperament or doctrine.

Another important difference is that worldly possessions of members were not given to friends or relatives, but to the Christian Church, which is probably why the Therapeutae disappeared and the Christian Churches grew rich and flourished.

Warmly,

Jay Raskin

PS: Is it just me or do these folks seem a bit "new agey"? Dream channeling (Edgar Cayce), singing of responsive hymns while segregated by sex (Shakers), community (Masons - anyone who has ate at a cafeteria run by a local Masonic hall knows what I mean). But then there is a bit of "beat-nikiness" about them (living in shacks at the lakeshore, drinking only spring water and eating plain bread, reading poetry and thoughtfully discussing deep philosophical matters).

I've posted evidence to tie Theraputae. The evidence I provided also directly contradicts philosopherjay's claims.
