I saw "Marcion" spelled in Greek with a "κ," a kappa in the middle, pronounced like a hard "k," and I thought, "Hmm... maybe I have been pronouncing 'Marcion' wrong, because I have pronounced it with an 's' for years." I only read and write about Marcion on the Internet, and I never really speak with other people who actually know who he is. So, I did a search for "Marcion" in YouTube. Fortunately, I found out that I was pronouncing it all this time the same way a popular preacher pronounces it, and presumably the same as every other English speaker. This preacher James David Manning made Marcion the subject of his sermon, and it turns out to be an exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable video.

It's OK. The pronunciation was probably anglicized a very long time ago.

The Greeks also spelled "Caesar" with a "K," and that is how the Romans pronounced it. And that tells you, if you didn't already know, why the Germans called their head honcho "Kaiser" for a while. |

That preacher was not a good advertisement for the quality of education given to Christian preachers. |

They don't care about that. As long as the collection plate comes back full they are happy.
