Default Muslims as an atheists best friend?

It seems to me that in this Christian crazy time in this country, American muslims might be an atheists best friend. They too suffer at the hands of Christians and they are organizing.

register Muslim voters

I think it should be illegal to have get out the vote drives on the basis of religious preference. It assumes the religion being targeted has some political agenda, and if that's the case the religion should lose its tax exempt status and be a political organization according to the IRS.

The fact that some Muslims are opposed to Xtianity doesn't mean that they aren't just as bad as Xtians. I'm opposed to all religionists, not just Xtians.

The only reason Muslims in this country aren't more of a problem is because they know they're a very unpopular minority in a majority Xtian country and have the good sense not to rock the boat too much. If they were to attempt to encode their religous values into the law-- as the Xtians attempt to do-- and were, for some reason successful, the results would be just as bad, if not worse, than anything that Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and the rest of the far-right Xtian cabal could ever come up with.

Grad, I didn't say that we would be friends for life. It just seems to me that for the moment we share the similar goal of getting Christians off our backs. If the religious would keep it to themselves and enjoy their own freedoms without restricting the freedoms of others, they would not bother me a bit. Live and let live.

I'm with GSH on this one, Starboy. The Muslim 'cure' would be far worse than the Christian 'disease'.

i posted this in another thread here, but it seems to apply here too:
Quote:
although it has done indescribable harm throughout the history of humanity, there is some benefit to "one true faith"-ism. in a diverse culture such as the united states, the perpetual scraps that theists have with one another helps (at least somewhat) to keep the various religions at bay, thus preventing a complete theocracy. (note the word "complete.")
i think that this may be what starboy was referring to. atheists are a very tiny minority, but we sometimes find unwitting help in the form of other theists who oppose a religious majority. although i agree that islam is no better than christianity, i also strongly believe that a fundamentalist christian theocracy in america would be no better than the fundamentalist muslim theocracies of iran and afghanistan.

As I quickly found out when I started posting here, the enemy of my enemy is not likely to be my friend.

Really?

So I can't gather atheists an try to convince them they should vote for candidate X because he supports atheists interests?

Muslims, friends of atheists?! Are you crazy? They are much worse than Christians. Islam is a theonomic, dominionist religion, with absolutely no provision for religion-state separation ("render unto Caesar"). The world at large is in desperate need of deconverting Muslims, or at least secularising Islamic society.
