Default And apart from venting on this messageboard...

you are doing precisely WHAT to change these laws?

Perhaps less in Australia than in the US (because we don't have state premiers enacting laws at the drop of a hat to over-ride valid court decisions in respect to life extension measures), these laws affect many people every single day. And there aren't many of us who have been affected by them who haven't bitched and moaned to some extent here. But after we've finished bitching and moaning, we go out and do something about getting those laws changed. It's one hell of a slow process, but it's people caring about the impact of such laws long after they cease to directly affect them which gets such laws changed.

Should we not talk about terrorism and specific methods terrorists use for the sake of argument as well?

If you seriously want to argue that there are effective, easy and painless ways to kill yourself which make a doctor's help unnecessary, then list them. Otherwise your argument carries no weight.

If you can easily find them on google, don't you think someone suicidal could easily find them too? I've looked around briefly myself and have found several methods, some less painful than others, some more effective than others, but none both effective and painless. I'm curious to see what you've found.

I don't care that you find it absurd that I won't list them. I don't want something I type to come to mind when some poor soul is in a dark hour. Depressed people just don't need that kind of mental image handed to them. It's easy enough to find these when you're looking for them.

If you are terminally ill, and are looking for help, PM me. We'll talk.

As for the terrorist comparison, now who's being absurd? A single suicidal person looking for a painless way to end his or her suffering cannot be compared to a mass murderer.

I don't want suicide to be easy, therefore, I'm not going to list easy ways to do it. I think that the terminally ill have every right to end their own suffering. I also know that severe depression can be painful enough to make one want to die. If it's legal, at best the government decides who is, and who is not in enough pain to die peacefully. At worst, legalized suicide would make death a quick end to what could have been a long, happy and productive life, given the proper treatment.

The title of this post is simply classic.

And right before you do it, "tip off" multiple news agencies that one of the advanced children has managed to debunk Hawking's assorted theories and is available for a discussion at the playground at such and such time (or some such story). That way, they get a tape of a guy blowing his brains out in front of all the little children on (preferably) national television.
