I was reading some stuff about the new Batman: Begins stuff on the internet when I suddenly had a thought. Spiderman and Batman are actually pretty similar as they both have an extremely loyal fanbase.
Poll refers to whoever will win in a one on one fight ala Freddy vs. Jason type crossover. Similarities include... 1. Both themed after animals. 2. Both are very strong and agile. 3. Both are very intelligent. 4. Both make use of gadgetry themed after their mascots. 5. Both has the deaths of family members as motivators for fighting crime. (Parents, Uncle) 6. Both make extensive use of grappling and swinging (or web slinging). 7. Both are respected and disliked by the general public. 8. Both have insane archvillains. 9. Both of the villains in #8 are voiced by Mark Hamill in the cartoon versions. (Joker, Green Goblin) 10. Both have a cat-themed subcharacter who falls in love with their respective hero. (Catwoman and the Black Cat) 11. Both have villains themed after a variety of animals. (Penguin/Man-bat, Vulture/Rhino) 12. Both have shapeshifting villains themed after dirt. (Clayface/Sandman) 13. Both have villains with multiple personalities. (Green Goblin/Two-face) 14. Both often go against ordinary thugs. (hey, what hero doesn't?) 15. Both have utility belts. 16. Both have "alternate reality" comic series. Differences include... 1. Spiderman has superpowers, Batman has vehicles. 2. Spiderman is witfully confident, Batman is seriously badass. 3. Spiderman has reflexes to dodge bullets while Batman has stormtrooper accurate thugs. 4. Batman has Robin while Spiderman is alone. (who the loner now, huh?) 5. Spiderman is motivated by guilt while Batman is motivated by revenge. 6. Uhhhh................ That's all I can think of. |

I voted Batman simply because I'm a Judge Dredd / 2000AD fan and Batman came across as a total hardass in Judgement on Gotham. Even Dredd himself remarked that Batman was a hardman.

My friend Jose and I have discussions like this occasionally.
The outcome depends on several things (I'm assuming Batman doesn't get to bring in Robin, Nightwing, Spoiler, Catwoman, and the Huntress.) Setting. Are we in a steel cage? The rooftops of a city? (If so, which city?) A vast trackless waste? Equipment. Are they both fully loaded up, or are they going at it mano e mano, stripped down to masks and loincloths? Preparation. Bats is one of the best in the business when he has time to prepare. He'd find a chemical way to dissolve Spidey's webbing, some kind of machine to jam his Spider-Sense and set up some extra-strong batarangs and wire. Even if he doesn't have days, even a few minutes' warning would give him time to plan. (He's no slouch when to comes to on-the-fly preparation, but then Spiderman's greater strength and agility come into play.) I'd think Batman would win if he had any kind of lead time, if he had a decently set up utility belt, and if they weren't trapped in an enclosed space. Otherwise, Spiderman would take it. (I voted Batman.) Rob aka Mediancat |

Batman, simply because he's so insane that he would keep fighting long after Spider Man had wanted to go off and mope about his non-girlfriend or whatever. What a wuss.

More to add!
Similarities... 17. Both have had a "campy" period, complete with theme song. Differences... 6. Batman had money, Spiderman has an elderly aunt and a newspaper editor who hates him. 7. Batman alter-ego is a playboy billionaire, Spiderman alter-ego is a geeky college student earning peanuts from shots of himself. btw, I voted "other", otherwise know as "Who cares?" |

![]() I know, Freddy vs. Jason sucked, but at least they stayed in character so it was much more unbiased than whatever drooling fanscript churns out. |

Spiderman, being superhuman, is likely able to absorb more damage than Batman, but Batman seems like he'd be more willing to subject himself to that sort of punishment to begin with. If it came down to an endurance test, I couldn't say who'd win.
At any rate, Batman's costume and infrared lenses convey a huge advantage if they're fighting at night. I'd bet that Bruce Wayne also takes more time than Peter Parker to memorize the layout of the playing field. (I voted for Batman, mostly because his costume kicks ass and because I think they should nail Spiderman's mouth shut). |

I don't know about anyone else here but I am really excited about the new Batman film. Hopefully they won't go so over the top with this new version and ruin it with camp and tributes to the crappy 60's TV show.

All written with the limitation that we are talking about two fictional guys here. Personally, I think the new Batgirl takes either one of them. |

Batman, DUH.
Spiderman is a comic book character, meaning he is FICTIONAL. NOT EVEN A REAL GUY. |
