I'm generally the same here as I am in real life. I don't really care if I am 'rude' to anybody here.

I do think that this is an interesting topic. I think that most of the time I'm more direct here than I generally am in real life. That is more clear to me when I post on Christian boards than it is here--and I think that I am less concerned with stepping on toes and saying what I think--although I am more careful when I post on theistic forums. I feel that I am able to be less respectful to "my elders" in online theistic forums than I ever would be able to be in real life.
In real life, I feel a great deal more pressure not to rock the boat about my ideas about what this whole world/meaning of life/God thing is. After all, in real life I am a young Southern woman who isn't in to confrontation. Being outspoken about what I think (on this particular day about random theological subject) may not jive well with the community that I love (church) that is held together really only by a common belief. I'd rather be privately set apart (in my head), than publicly set apart (there's that weirdo)--especially as I'm not settled into anything at the moment. Online, I'm already set apart because I don't have any connections to the community, so I've started out as a singular individual and what is it to me that I stay that way? --tibac |

I like to think I treat people online same as irl. I just dont meet as many fundies, so am often less hostile over all.

I'm more assertive online. Being a "sweet little southern gal," I tend to walk away from arguments, as I generally feel no need to convince people that what I think is right.
Also when I get irritated or angry, I tend to cry, which is embarrassing. Here though, the jabs are just on the screen, so I feel more able to make my point without fear of getting emotional. |
