I can't think of any way to have a view that denies that Mary is the mother of God that is compatible with orthodox Christianity.

Mary is the mother of Jesus, who is God.

Deny that Jesus is God, you're way out in left field.
Deny that Mary is the mother of Jesus, and you've rejected "... and the Virgin Mary".
