I think another reason is because, since many Christians feel they must "believe" in order to be saved, that any inkling of doubt will put then in the category of the "unsaved" as opposed to the "saved." In their view, to doubt is to not be a Christian, hence no different from all the rest of the world that is heading, quite literally, to hell in a handbasket.
