That tradition is even apparent in the Tanakh itself, as several books reinterpret and rearrange and spin earlier books already.

It's amazing what hoops "faith" makes them all jump through. I'm really missing that gene. It's just bizarre to watch it from the outside.
Unfortunately, most people seem to have that gene. I guess people like you need to breed more. =)

I don't mean to derail the thread but why are contradictions important? not all christians believe in inerrancy. editors of the text could distorted the to make appear ineranant. What discredits the bible more is the contradictions between what it says about the state of the earth and the cosmos. This shows it an product of the time it was written.

"Christianity" is a broad word. Broadly speaking, Christianity can be broken down into 5 types:

1.)Fundamentalism
2.)Orthodox
3.)Conservative
4.)Liberal
5.)Universalist

Liberal and Universalist Christianity, in my book, is sufficiently close to secular humanism that I really don't care to deconvert them. In many ways, these are people who just go to church or pray to God because it makes them feel better. The Fundamentalists, Orthodox, and Conservative groups are a serious nuissance in many ways. Their beliefs harm both themselves and society.

And, the fundamentalist and orthodox crowd believe in the absolute inerrancy of The Bible, and these groups use a lot of brainwashing tactics. If you can poke any hole in this theology, the believer seriously begins to question. The entire Propaganda system falls apart. Internal contradictions are powerful because it is a logical refutation of that position. However, it takes a lot more than an internal contradiction to deconvert a fundie or orthodox Christian.

As for the Conservative Christians, they're a mixed bag.

I highly recommend this thread :
Shredding The Gospels by Diogenes The Cynic.

IMVH-Layman's-O it's brilliant. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
