Default I am an infidel!

And an unrepentent one! At least far as our dear muslims a few countries away are concerned. Though maybe being called an infidel by someone else and calling oneself an infidel (as I presume most of you gladly do here?) are two different things. So, perhaps I don't belong here. But, with all the rage from so-called religion of peace over a few cartoons recently, I couldn't resist taking a closer look at something called Internet Infidels - even if this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

I am opinionated. I don't believe that I am stupid for believing what I do. But I am willing to listen to reason. And my fight has never really been against the honest atheist. However, if you think you would rather do without my occasional input, I shall divert my attention to one of all those hundreds of other message boards where people would be happy to see my awesome avatars. Which I just read one cannot have here. *heartbroken about that*

Welcome, Spitfire.

Do I gather that you are a Christian?

If so, do have any cogent reasons for being so that you could tell us about?

awww an avatar idoler, eh? WE know the likes of you... hahahaha

<edit>

Whatever your belief, you are welcome to Infidels, as long as you are willing to be talked too as well as to talk.

(IE, no preaching, though dialogue and debate is allowed of course)

We are sure you can contribute, so join in.

Yes, I am Christian. Catholic. Of course I've met a lot of people who would sneeringly tell me that doesn't qualify as Christian at all. And I'm far more inclined to rip out their throats than any of yours, probably, as long as you're willing to accept me for what I am. As for why I believe, that is complicated. I don't expect to change anyone's mind, but I don't like things to be too one sided and I like to offer up an alternative viewpoint every so often. Let it suffice to say for now, I have not been given what I consider to be cogent reasons not to believe. I do not believe that reality happened accidentally, or could happen accidentally.

I will my best to formulate my opinions in a non-idiotic manner but be aware that my mind and my typing little fingers are not always on the same page! I'm a little crazy too... or so I'm told.

Just wondering. Were you raised catholic, or converted? There's a guy on another thread thinking of converting to catholicism. Have you come across that thread yet?

I don't see catholicism as being a good idea myself. Too damaging, in terms of its policies on contraception and prophylactics, among other things. And taking on ideas like the Assumption of Mary, for which there isn't even any scriptural evidence, as something you have to believe in because you have been infallibly told you have to by some dude doesn't seem the best of plans.

Still, at least you guys make an effort to come to terms with scientific facts like evolution, even if your track record in the more distant past was not too good.

Look forward to talking to you.

Welcome.

I'm an ex-Catholic, myself. IIDB is a great place for intelligent debate and discussion. You don't sound the type to bring out the preaching, so great.

No, I haven't. Where's that? I come from a Catholic family but in my upbringing it wasn't much more than a cultural formality to be observed. I strayed away when I was a teenager but turned back a few years ago, and now take it far more seriously than I ever did before.

Fair enough.

Are you referring to the state of affairs in Africa? If so, the Church should start handing out codoms in Africa, I agree, that would surely solve everything. After all, when none of these people are listening to what the Church says about the importance of faithful monogamy you know they're suddenly going to start paying attention when they hear it's okay to use a condom.

You don't have to believe any of that if you don't want to. Don't think the Pope has any right to tell you what to believe? Fine. We have a word for people who don't. It's called "Protestant." Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out! I hope you like your theology served with lots of sticky sweet sap on top.

Don't jump to any conclusions about what I've come to terms with. And I haven't apologized for anything yet.
