Spend my days with a woman unkind Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine Made up my mind, make a new start Goin' to California with an achin' in my heart Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair Took my chances on a big jet-plane Never let 'em tell ya that they're aw-ooh-all the same Hoh, the sea was red and the sky was grey I wonder how tomorrow could ever follow today-hee Mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake The children of the sun begin to awake It seems that the wrath of the gods got a punch on the nose and it's startin' to flow, I think I might be sinkin' Throw me a line, if I reach it in time Meet you up there where the path runs straight and high Find a queen without a king They say she plays guitar and cries and sings, la-la-la-la Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born Standin' on a hill in the mountain of dreams Tellin' myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems |

Care to provide statistics to back up your claim?
...or perhaps this is just a case of over-emphasizing a claim to try to compensate for the fact it is baseless? People who have no rational basis for their positions are prone to this type of behavior. |

Intelligent people, which Queen of Swords most assuredly is, do not find asinine stories a source of comfort. Quote:
How dare you post that stupid Matt quote, “And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” Are you blaming QoS mom’s passing on her lack of belief? Does your belief bring you peace? By the way…according to your beliefs, not mine… your Pop was a sinner and he’s roasting in Hell. That was the message Jesus brought, does it make you feel good? Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Jesus says that most people will go to hell. He seems to be OK with that. Sorry Pop there’s no Led Zepplin in heaven. |

I take it you are unable to address the fact that prayer fails. Hardly surprising. Quote:

So even if you had children or a family who needed you, you wouldn't want to live with them and would prefer to die so that you could experience an afterlife? That strikes me as a selfish attitude. I'm grateful that my mother wasn't like that at all. I always knew that what she wanted most was to continue living so that she could be with her family. Too bad all the prayer failed. Any explanation for why it failed, gracebkr?

You were? I had no idea. You might wish to spare me this kind of "comfort", since it seems geared to people who share your particular beliefs and since it was a complete evasion of my point (this is a discussion; if I want support from people I'll go to the Lounge). I don't find anything comforting about the idea that my mother died in horrible pain despite people begging her god to heal her, but now she's hanging around me somehow and communicating through coincidences.

The part in the bible about, "Ask and you shall receive"? Judging from gracebkr's posts, that's actually supposed to be, "Ask and you shall receive, unless you ask for healing". Because gracebkr's god is like a father who, when his son asks for bread, gives him poison, the quicker to end his earthly existence and get him to heaven pronto. |

I didn't read anything but the first post, and i'm going to say this anyway because if it's been said already, it needs to be repeated:
Of course Jesus saves, he's a jew. |

The Bible consists of 1) A lot of myths /legends 2) A Hell of a lot of really boring supposed genealogies 3) Some decent poetry 4) Some bits which may or may not be historically accurate and which should always be checked against other historical/archaeological sources like every other work of "history " 5) Some "dodgy science " 6) Some bad geography 6) NO jokes at all as far as I can see (A major fault in it in my opinion) Regarding the nonsensical "argument from the calendar" you are of course aware that even some "true believers " accept that the "true date" of Jesus birth was not in fact 2007 years ago right ? Personally I am pretty much "agnostic" about whether there was a Historic Jesus or not, certainly at that time in history & later there were several supposed "Messiahs" about all of whom claimed to be fulfilling "prophecy",however I do NOT think that any of them were capable of performing the supernatural "miracles " as claimed and I am certainly NOT convinced that "He " was the "son of God". |
