But then Joseph, you are not a practicing Jew are you?
You cannot even read Hebrew, and are not a Hebrew, are you?
Just an -outsider-, a goy, Jewish wannabe.
Joseph's religious affiliation has been a matter of speculation here.

One guy in Evolution speculated he was a "British Jew" which evidently holds that the British are descendants of the tribe of Ephraim, while Americans are the tribe of Manassah, and actual Jews are imposters. I ran this by an English friend who pointed out that "Brit" means brotherhood in Hebrew. However "Ain" means not.

My impression is that he is Jewish, but has Austin Power's lack of control of his internal monologue.

His language theory seems to be completely new.

Makes me a little envious, but there is something to be said for anonymity.

I am going by what his opinions in this forum, and in others reveal.
I am well versed in Hebrew, and have family members that are practicing Jews (as well as some that are practicing Muslims, and of course the various Christian sects)
I have had plenty of conversations with each, and as an invited dinner guest, have ate at each ones table, Always parting on good and friendly terms. Not bragging, just a fact of my personal conduct, I have made many friends of many different religious beliefs, because I know to respect others cultures and beliefs.
Out of this experience, and much personal study, I am well equipped to spot what is nothing deeper than shallow but bombastic bullshit.
If "Joseph" wants to attempt to pass himself off as being a practicing Jew to me, he is going to need to display one hell of a lot better working knowledge of the Torah, and of Judaism's traditions, and traditional understandings than anything he has thus far employed, hence the earlier observation about him "making it up as he goes along".

I second the vote, and I don't even have a bunch of Jewish friends/family. The only Hebrew words I know are 'yamika' and 'dradle', which I don't even know how to spell properly in English. ....oh yeah, and 'gefiltafish'...which probably isn't really Hebrew.

...and 'matza'...which I doubt is Hebrew as well, since it sounds too much like 'maize'.

They must have lived somewhere - considering they introduced the first recording of the river Tigris and Mount Arafat - you think?! And my understanding is that flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones - denotes more than just a rib - sort of aligning more from dust of the earth - as with a microcosm of all earth's elements. Including potassium. ta-daaa!?

Yeah, the Adams Family homeplace is still located on the bible map (KJV) "Eden" and maybe indicating Edomites as kinsmen of Adamites. You think?!

Naa, "flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones" indicates blood ties as in kindred/kinsmen tribes. I've determined this to be correct based on tribal customs. Unless pre-arranged marriages were not a custom of those ancient peoples which is doubtful.

But you still have to tidy up the job with a clever explanation for;
Quote:
Gen 2:21. And YHWH Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22. And the rib, which YHWH Elohim had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
Lets see, metaphors, perhaps "Adam" doesn't really mean "Adam"- the man?

And "caused a deep sleep to fall" doesn't really mean "caused" ?or "deep"? or "sleep"? or "to fall upon" "Adam" ? (who was really not Adam the man)

"and he slept" must really mean that "he"? (who wasn't really a "he" at all) must not have actually "slept" at all?

"and He" (but "He" who is not really a "He" at all) "took one of his ribs" -doesn't really mean that "He"-"took"? (He is not a "He" at all, so "He" doesn't physically take anything)?
And "one of" doesn't necessarily mean "one" of? because "one of" might really mean "one -set- of"? (could be ten, a hundred, a million or more individual pieces in that "one" -set"- "of the ribs" of "Adam"!!!)

"And He closed up the flesh instead thereof" this cannot actually mean what it says, it has got to be a metaphor? or a "type" ? or a "similitude"? or an "allegory"?
"He" is not a "He", and the
"closed up" actually means?
and "the flesh" actually means?
and "instead" actually means?
and "thereof" actually means?

And of course according to IamJoseph, this happened not within the realm of the visable and physical "heavens" and the "earth" that "He" created, (in spite of what OUR text might seem to indicate) but in Joseph's text (I don't know where, because I've never seen it) it says that this took place somewhere "IN A REALM OUTSIDE OF THIS UNIVERSE!"
We do need IamJoseph to drop in here again to give us the correct "scientific stats" and the qoutations from the text of The Book of Joseph that will help explain all of this "IN A REALM OUTSIDE OF THIS UNIVERSE" stuff.

I'm too lazy to look up rib in the Hebrew but I suspect it is actually rib. For the serpent, there is no doubt that this is a serpent. The serpent/snake is an important image in the Hebrew Bible; Moses' staff, the snake idol he set up to stop the plague. This continues as well into Psalms and Kabbalah.

I know Joseph from the Chabad.org website and his comments are consistent with his interpretation of Chabad exegesis, which is why I am pretty sure he is Jewish. Australia has a surprisingly large orthodox Jewish population, I doubt he is very religious (although he doesn't post on Saturday) because he shows no inhibitions about posting things that might offend people and in turn reflect negatively on Judaism.

The Chabad movement has popularized Judaism with secular Jews, but internally their Messianic nature, and belief in Lurianic Kabbalah is quite disturbing.

Maimonides, who is a rationalist, teaches that if something in the Torah can be shown to be not literal, we must assume it is a metaphor. He gives examples like God walks, God said, etc. The same rules would apply for the Garden of Eden, the flood, tower of Babel, Balaams ass, etc.

Chabad does not give Maimonides the same respect that the modern Orthodox do, but they use him when it suits their purposes like to support their messianic claims for the late Rebbe.

My theory is that Joseph has been attempting to reconcile parts of the Torah that he no longer literally believes using the bizarre Chabad structure. He seems to be trying to support his flagging belief in the truth of Torah, with his weird explanations. It would be much more interesting if his ideas were a little better.

Whatever the species he might be, he suffers from a serious case of Foot in Mouth Disease.
Fortunately, the condition usually can be treated, and cured. although the medicine is distasteful, and the beast oft kicks against the goads.

ok, let's see if I can get my imagination going here.

"and he closed up the flesh instead thereof" indicates a prohibition against Adam accepting other non kinsmen into his family. Which of course indicates how Adam sinned in the first place. Adam merely opened his door to non relative kinsmen who were bearer's of the evil knowledge among their own customary tradition, and this fruit was not fit for Adam to eat. So there you have it. A simply matter of Adam's family not being permitted to practice whatever customs were being practiced by all the other different tribes in the land. So the God of Adam moved him into a more secluded area but the serpent still had access to the Adams Family. And of course the serpent could talk, he even had a full set of teeth :devil1:; because the serpent was a man, a man who was a leader of other people in the land.

Now, the serpent seems to have been tolerant of all tribal customs in whatever things people believed and so the serpent didn't see his customs as "evil knowledge", in fact, the serpent may have considered his knowledge as quite superior to that of Adam's ignorant myths. But it is the story of Adam and his fall from the garden of Eden and why his fall was called the sin of Adam. Adam took to himself another custom in attempt to gain knowledge and become wise and obtain the wisdom[knowledge] of those other peoples in their tribes. Which gets us into all those begotten sons and why Adam[his name] died in the day that he was created - "a thousand years as one day" 930 years. Within this time span millions of people came and went as begotten sons. And the serpent received an evil report for deceiving Adam and his wife. Eve of course, received condemnation because she wanted to exchange weaving patterns with different women in those other tribes. She particularly liked the bright red and white embellishments worn by certain women of Nod.

The point might be in not that Adam slept, but how long the duration of his ignorance.

ps.. The man recognized as the first man that began as the head of the household, the chief, (not the first human being on earth) was called to be The Family of Adam; same in meaning as the Jews were called by the name of the man Abraham - the family of Abraham, joined to the House of Abraham, Abrahams children[citizens].

Yes, I agree. Joseph and his peculiar form of Hebrew stats are welcome here.

Why isn't the Bible a historical record?
*******************************

Because the author isn't credible.

I believe that a false statement - from a historical and scientific pov. The Hebrew writings is the wolrld's most credible writings - by period of time, cencus and volume of proven stats.
