Default Debt and the Deficit

Barack Obama's economic policies have dug the United States deeper into debt and we now have a record deficit. Despite Obama's promises to cut the deficit in half, Obama failed miserably.

I. Barack Obama failed to cut the deficit in half.

In February of 2009, Barack Obama promised to cut the deficit in half http://www.politifact.com/florida/st...eep-pledge-ha/ today, we know that this is false.

Ezra Klein from the Washington Post notes:

Quote:
- The broken deficit promise: This is one of those cases in which what's important will make headlines. The Obama administration is officially breaking its promise to halve the deficit by the end of their first term. The 2013 budget envisions a deficit of more than $1 trillion -- not halved by any stretch of the imagination. Republicans are right about that. But fulfilling that promise -- which would have meant moving to massively contractionary fiscal policy over the last year -- would have been a dumb thing to do. The Obama administration is right about that.

Erik Wasson from The Hill notes:

Quote:
The U.S budget deficit for fiscal year 2011 is $1.299 trillion, the second largest shortfall in history.

The nation only ran a larger deficit for the 2009 fiscal year, which included the dramatic collapse of financial markets and a huge bailout effort by the government. The nation's deficit that year was $1.412 trillion.

II. Obama's Economic Policies have Failed to Reduce the Debt

Nancy Pelosi has promoted a chart that shows Obama with a very low record of debt spending whereas Bush and Reagan have the most. This was rated as pants on fire by PolitiFact. PolitiFact also states:

Quote:
Obama is the undisputed debt king of the last five presidents
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-me...-debt-accumul/

Mark Knoller from CBS News also notes:

Quote:
The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Mr. Obama took office. The latest calculation from Treasury shows the debt has now hit $14.639 trillion.

It's the most rapid increase in the debt under any U.S. president.

The national debt increased $4.9 trillion during the eight-year presidency of George W. Bush. The debt now is rising at a pace to surpass that amount during Mr. Obama's four-year term.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_1...04-503544.html

This is a chart, also from CBS news, that shows the rising debt under Barack Obama:

In a later post, Mark Knoller states:

Quote:
The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office.

The latest posting from the Bureau of Public Debt at the Treasury Department shows the National Debt now stands at $15.566 trillion. It was $10.626 trillion on President Bush's last day in office, which coincided with President Obama's first day.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_1...an-under-bush/

Conclusion:

Barack Obama's economic policies have failed to reform the federal government and has launched us into sky high debt and a record deficit. Barack Obama's policies cannot be taken much longer. The debt is very bad in the long run and will eventually collapse our nation.

Barack Obama stated, "Adding 4 trillion dollars to the national debt is unpatriotic and irresponsible." In Obama's 4 years alone, he has increased 4 trillion dollars. This is unpatriotic and irresponsible.

What we need to do is adopt sane fisical policies, balance the budget, and cut the government size. Once we do that, we will be able to cut the debt and the deficit.

Hey I'm really sorry but I'm having major problems with my computer. It keeps overheating and shutting off. I'm going to need a minor extension until Monday. I will send from work.

Default Hey

Hey,

I am really sorry, my laptop apparently over heated so bad it did internal damage and I'm going to pick up another computer tonight on the way home. I should be able to have it posted by tomorrow (Tuesday) midnight CST.

I tried doing it during breaks at work, but we've been too busy here.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Bryce
