They just don't make any sense at all. Not even a little bit. I like the drawings, I like his writing enough, but...the cartoons make no sense.

Perhaps try the Comics Sherpa page for more reading... I still don't get it. Except now I don't get it even more than I didn't get it before. |

looks like your standard Christian fantasy world where fundamentalist Christians are simultaneously the backbone of the country, in charge of it, etc, but are persecuted every second of the day living under horrible secular tyranny. Oh, and of course all atheists or people who like secularism are just absolutely demonized.
What shocks me is that the comics sherpa page told me this thing is going to be published daily in major newspapers. And I thought "Zippy" was bad... |

I've almost convinced myself that it's some kind of surrealist genius.
For instance, in this series, look at the first strip: THE MOUSE HAS NO EYES! AND GAYBEAR'S EYES ARE BLUE AND YELLOW! And in the second strip....look at the snow behind them, effervescent, light, fluffy, juxtaposed with the heart-wrenching fact that the three-letter words Gaybear doesn't "get" are "God", "and", "sin". And in the third strip: Howard Dean! Sticking out of a tree! And I don't care what anyone says, that cat's line is priceless--funny as hell. Or in the fourth strip, look at the decor: Lots of mooses and bears, a nature painting hanging on the wall and a lamp made of antler's horns--AND a picture of Siegfried and Roy. Say what you will about the man's theology, but he's got his eyes on the details..... |
