Robert Alter's and Richard Friedman's Torahs were decent enough, sometimes not shaky, but usually sound.

I was just going to recommend the translations of Robert Alter. He also has a translation of the Psalms out now as well. I haven't gotten that one yet, but plan to.

What's your point?

If you don't like what is available, all you need to do is learn ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, and translate your own. Simple.

I think the overall point here is that many translations, in choosing the words they do, obfuscate the polytheistic and later henotheistic character of parts of the Hebrew Scriptures. These obfuscations are precisely what I'm interested in, so Loomis' comments are relevant to me (although not necessarily to anyone else).
