This entire forum seems to be an internet playground "ruled" by the high atheist "morals" of bullying anyone/anything that might actually believe in something... nothing more. [removed] Shame on them for that, and so much for religious freedom (and so-called "morals") in this place. :bulb: Rev. Timothy G. Muse's last post regarding John 6, although accurate, will ultimately fall on deaf ears because of "belief-of-convenience" issues (i.e., believing or disbelieving anything that will conveniently fit into one's current lifestyle). If the Bible says "don't lie" (it does), and a person chooses to lie, the person simply rebels with something like "the Bible must be a myth" (even though it is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE to live one's life without telling lies). It is quite simple really. |

"The bible is right, so atheists can't genuinely disbelieve it, because that would mean that they might have a real point, or I am missing something that they didn't, so I'll tell myself that they know the truth but just 'choose' to ignore the bible, and that way my worldview isn't destroyed". This is just cognitive dissonance at its best. Muse's posts won't fall on deaf ears. Rather, we'll read what he has to say, but we won't believe it because it's nonsense based on an old book written by primitive humans. And I say that as a former fundamentalist. I do not condition myself to ignore the bible. Rather, I believed the bible but now I don't because I woke up and smelled the absurdity. I know it is hard for some theists to grasp, but atheists genuinely disregard the bible after reading it, studying it, and rejecting it and all the old arguments for theism. |

Resolved: Atheists choose to disbelieve primarily because they want to sin, but the bible won't let them. So, Inquisitive, referring to the OP, do atheists choose not to believe in the system of Hell, knowing full well that their disbelief will land them there? How far does your little rational choice theory take you with that one? Oh I can't wait for the brilliant exposition, chock full of logic and airtight reasoning. Here it comes... (edit deleted) |

Atheists get slammed and bullied in the public arena--television, print, radio, Christian bulletin boards and Web sites--every friggin' day. Every single friggin' day! Bush the Senior once said he didn't think atheists could be considered citizens! But they're not supposed to blow off a little steam in this little corner of the Internet they call their own, at theists who come in here arrogantly preaching and spouting Bible verses and telling them they're going to hell? Your comment really makes no sense whatsoever. More of that "you just believe or disbelieve whatever you want because you want to live however you want" horseshit. No, we ACCEPT that for which there is evidence (whether we like it or not), and it is quite possible to have a reasonable ethical and moral code--based on the Golden Rule--which constrains one's behavior (even to the point of inconvenience) without ascribing that code to a supernatural entity. And WHO, exactly, when "choosing" to lie, assuages their conscience by "rebelling" against the Bible by calling it a myth? The Bible seems real enough. The moral and legal codes found in the Bible are real enough. They aren't myths. There are stories in there that are myths, of course. But no, if one doesn't regard the Bible as god's word in the first place, then one isn't purposefully "rebelling" against it and god when one lies. One is just lying without caring one way or the other what the Bible says about it. And taken as a whole, the Bible ain't that clear about lying. God lies and encourages Abraham to lie, for example. |

Atheists choose many things. Put simply, your ability to rationalize and use "airtight" logic (or reasoning) is vastly overrated by you, since all the "logic" we (all of us, not just some of us) have is based on very limited info. You wish to "think" you know many things, but what we all really know is also very limited. You even go so far as to say "I can't wait for the 'brilliant' exposition," which tells me that you assume I'm not as smart as you. Whatever. If you're so smart, why don't you cure death? While you're at it, why not explain (with more than an opinion) all of these universal mysteries we have (with 100% accuracy, of course). Yep, that's what I thought. ![]() Gregg... LoL! So, this forum is atheists' revenge? Of course . . . revenge=moral! I guess it depends on how one chooses to look at it, huh)!  |

And there it is. Magnificent.
I accept as axiomatic that I am smarter than a turnip. Good night. edit: One more thing: Whatever. Is. Not. A. Response. Y.F.M. |

Religious freedom means that you get to practice your religion. Religious freedom doesn't mean that your religion is free from criticism. You may not like that your god is fair game for criticism, but we have freedom of speech and that means we can criticize anything we want. You can criticize our criticisms as well and try to debate with us. But don't blame us if your arguements are inadequate. If you are offended by this board, you don't have to read it. You choose to read and participate on a board that is operated by atheists. You choose to read criticisms and challenges to your god. You can choose to leave and never come back but please spare us the "goodbye cruel message board" thread unless you want to read phrases such as "don't let the virtual door hit your virtual ass on the way out". |
