As I child at Sunday School, the story that puzzled me the most was Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son. As a uni student, when I was having a generalized WTF moment regarding my conversion, I was advised to read Job - creating another WTF moment because I failed to see how it was meant to be encouraging.
And as an adult trying to point out the rape-and-baby-killing episodes in the OT, my WTF moment came from my sister, who assured me this was an example of God acting morally. The babies were better off having their heads bashed in because otherwise they'd have starved to death. |

MPAA - Film Ratings An honest adaptation of the bible should get an NC-17 rating by the MPAA's guidelines. This ignores their Christian bias which is even more off topic. |

The above ratings are for the US, I presume. In Australia there is the X rating, and various others that differ from the US, and a different set again for TV.
I just remembered that my biggest WTF bible moment wasn't from reading the bible, it was finding out that Jesus never claims to be God in the bible. |

Back on topic. I always liked the thought of the sun standing still for a day. I can only imagine what people on the other side of the planet thought when the sun just didn't rise one day. I wonder what would actually happen if the planet just stopped spinning suddenly, ignoring the unsane amount of force that would be required to stop it. |

Not to mention the obvious point that it would require much *less* force for God to just smite Joshua's enemies on the spot. |

The story of Jephthah.
In order to ensure that Israel won a battle Jephthah swore that he would sacrifice upon returning home the first thing that came out of his house (WTF was he expecting to come out of his house?). They won the battle and upon returning home his daughter came out to greet him. After giving her some time to go out and "bewail her virginity" he sacrificed her. What a mighty God we serve! |
