Responding to premjan just-immediately preceding post here. I'll alter Witti's observation and say "Whereabout one is IGNORANT, thereabout one 'd better state one's position(s) as OPINION; or better yet, be silent."

you seem to assume I am making an attempt to offend (someone). This thread on an infidels forum does not exist as a gay social support group I assume but as a forum for debate and idea exchange.

I find the fact that birth order influences homosexuality to be very interesting: it could be as simple as an "ego differentiation" factor. Each successive sibling creates its own personality in relation to what it sees as its family identity (the parents and prior siblings). Hence the tendency to do other than what your predecessors did is probably strong. This may actually account for the tendency of some Greek philosophers and rich people to be gay: hetero sex is what the common people do, kind of infra dig thing.

For people who "define their identity" by being gay, as opposed to those who are just snogging their buddies and co-inmates for fun in secret, this would seem to be an even more likely explanation: being gay can be a contrarian ego position, a satisfying way to define who you are.

Of course, if being gay were mainly this kind of ego fad, it would be replaced by another such proclivity next year or next month. I presume for a lot of people it isn't, but I'm sure there are some people who drift in and out of it, kind of like Madonna became Esther.

Anyway, you can see how some religious people would think that being gay is a kind of fad for egotistical people to indulge in.

The GLBT community also does not exist to be everybody's little science experiment either. And if you read your GLBT history, that's actually a pretty sore spot.
Exchange is fine, and I appreciate that you're trying to understand, but if people want to show their support for the GLBT community, in any forum, WHO CARES??
And the bottom line about the "fad" theory is ignorance. Any human sexuality class can get a person past that. Each person explores their sexuality differently, and individually. Just being open to the idea shows that you can't score a zero on the Kinsey Scale.
People are coming out more, and coming out younger now. That's because of OPPORTUNITY, not fad. I wouldn't be out today if things were like they were 40 years ago, and I had to worry about being tossed into some mental institution and put through torture "therapies".

I support your choices whatever they might be.

Thank you, and I apologize if I sounded harsh. The GLBT Community has sort of a love/hate relationship with doctors and science. There is a bad history, and currently people are searching or claiming to find a "gay gene" or part of the brain, or something in one's hormones, or whatever. Some are scared that it could lead to attempts on "preventative measures" or other "cures". But on the other hand, as people study human sexuality, then you get things like the Kinsey Scale to help one understand. Plus anybody that is transgender to the point of wanting to alter their bodies will have to put a certain amount of trust into doctors. And I'm grateful for those that do want to learn and want to study the science behind it for the purposes of bettering people's lives and understanding.

GLBT folk were also sent to Hitler's camps, mind you. Not to even remotely try to minimize the horror of what happened to the Jews, but the exact same thing also happened to GLBT people.

So this whole part about experiementing on gay people to find out what causes "gaynes" does strike a tender nerve. Kind of like offering to round up a bunch of Jews and give them a train ride to a summer camp....

But on a lighter note...I'm completely bisexual and care very little about the gender of people, and I'm also the oldest sibling. So maybe I just beat the odds, eh?

[Please expand on what "the homosexual lifestyle" is, fallingblood. What is it about it that you don't agree with,

I find it strange when I hear people say,? I don’t agree with homosexuality? as if homosexuality were a political party

And my responce would be to suggest to them not to get a boyfriend or girlfriend, depending on the person's gender.

Still, such an attitide is incredibly arrogant and downright bothersome. It would be equvilient of saying "I don't agree with being black." Err...and so what I am supposed to do about it, having my brain hardwired for being bisexual as it currently is?

I agree. That was the first thing my stepfather told me when I came out. "I don't agree with your lifestyle." I thought, I have a LIFESTYLE??? But seriously, what is there to agree with or not agree with? That's a pretty blank statement, with no explanation behind it. The only explanations that I've been able to understand are:

1- the Ick Factor, and
2- the religious reasons.

For the ick factor, I gotta go with Hyndis on this one: if a same sex relationship grosses you out, then don't have one. Hey, I understand, that's why I stay away from pickled herring, but I'm not going to spout off at someone for eating it in front of me either.

And as far as religion goes, I actually feel like I'm doing God's work. There's some women out there just PRAYING for a man. So they can have my share!

PS Hyndis- Re: Hitler's camps- that's why I love the pink triangle. I wish GLBT history was taught in schools, so people would know. Peace.

Or is there a double standard?

d[/QUOTE]
On homosexuality:Social groups create deviance by making rules whose
infraction constitutes deviance and applying those rules to paticular people and labeling them outsiders
