What were they clothed in?

The answer is easy. It is in the Bible.

They were clothed in what Jesus was clothed in.

Jesus was clothed in imperishability.

It is strange that people can read the Gospel stories and never conclude that the resurrected Jesus was a corpse that had been 'clothed' in imperishability. It is just not a natural metaphor that would occur to anybody reading the stories.
