I think there's more to it than even that. It's as if they're afraid of anything genuine...cutting off thread after thread lest something spontaneous occur, something real and rude and unexpected and fearsome...lest something slip, or slip through.

The script just keeps getting narrower and narrower.

Some people might write this as "88%". Depending, that could be a B+, and A-, an 3.7, a 3.5, a 4-, a 3+... And that's just grading systems WITHOUT curves.
