I dunno about depression being anger. As far as I can tell, depression is depression. It's a thing in itself. Unlike anger, it responds to nutrition, exercise, and medication. I've found it much easier to deal with since I stopped looking for hidden emotional causes and started dealing with it as a chemical fluctuation.

Which isn't to say it's not useful to examine your feelings honestly and express them constructively. And depression can make you angry, because it's frustrating as hell not to have the energy and cope-ability to meet life's obligations.

Thanks for the info for me. Would it be possible for you to either do some work from your home, or maybe stay there longer hours overall, but take breaks to just relax? It helps me if I can work in short blocks, on predefined tasks.

The nature of the work precludes that unfortunately, sparkle, I am meeting boss on thursday to discuss alternatives though. I've already told him I can no longer work 9 hours through with no coffee or lunch break, so I think (hope) he's taken that on board. I mean to stick to my job plan, though who will do the extra work I used to do that wasn't on it, no one has figured out yet.

Part of what has helped me with my depression is treating it like a demon. Seriously. Like something with horns and a tail, and maybe a flamey pitchfork. Like something else that's trying to destroy me, and squaring my chin against it in my stubborn, child-psychology way. Something inside me, that only I can fight. Maybe I'll never be free of it, but it's not going to live my life for me, because I'm in charge, and the traits I associate with myself from before I became depressed are the traits that are going to win out, not the "I'm useless/worthless, no one loves me, I wish I had the guts to slit my wrists/down all those tablets/shoot myself, there's no point to trying to go on" part that's inside me.

Sort of puts "demonic possession" from days past into a different perspective, no?

But I don't necessarily endorse this route.

On an unrelated note, I want to post a "mental masturbation" type thread somewhere on CF, or generally, not where the atheists here are just going to go off about how pointless and destructive all the principles of gentle Christianity and symbols are. I can't post in WWMC, and am hesitant to post it in the debate threads, as I recall those being a veritable lion's den. Where should I post? If Rig/seebs/a half dozen others remember, it's in the same vein as my "searching" questions I made shortly before disappearing for a year or two.

Put it in Philosophy and tell people about it privately. It's a low-traffic area.

Yeah, my boss is pretty reasonable, but he easily works 12 hours a day, every day, all year round. Nearly everyone at that company puts in tons of unpaid overtime, and much as I generally like my job, that's not something I want to do, or feel that he has a right to pressure me over, especially when I'm commuting 3 hours a day.

Loki, the Philosophy forum in D&D used to be a more thoughtful and less frenetic place to post than GA for that sort of thing, I haven't been posting/reading D&D recently but you may want to have a look and see if you think it would be suitable.

*ETA as sparkle also said..

It's probably as suitable there as anywhere else; I might be able to nudge a mod into transferring it to the proper forum if it's not.

I thought for some reason that WWMC used to have an open sub-forum. But I might just be sleep-deprived.

Oh, and is it taboo to quote/link to RLP on CF?

RLP as in Real Live Preacher? Probably. He's too honest and humble for the crowd that makes the rules over there.

Loki, just have one of the people who can post in WWMC start a thread on the topic for you with the [open] tag.
