For example, to describe God's love as "unconditional" is simply dishonest, with respect to John 3:16 (believers will not perish, but have everlasting life) and John 3:18 (unbelievers are already condemned.) In order to be a Christian, one must hate their parents, hate their children, hate their spouses, and hate themselves. On that reason alone, I do not qualify as a Christian, because I love my family very much.That's not unreasonable. God is described in the Old Testament as somewhat of a paranoid, psychopathic murderer. It's generally best to avoid situations like those, much less offer love to people (or gods) like that.Plenty points to the contrary; in fact, there's a cover story on it in this week's issue of Time Magazine.
