Cool! After I post one thing, a thread gets moved to elsewhere!

But no, it doesn't. I could define a set as consisting of {1, 37, the word "potato", my nose} That's a set. It's just a set.

Regarding your analysis of sets, I can say that you will find difficulty in refuting my arguments. A set of numbers is clearly not a set of numbers simply because we have lost the property of succession which distinguishes numbers from mere numerals. So, a set of numbers is a set of numerals. Again I say, the property of the members of a set are not conferred on the set.

I will try to reply to your response on this point, but I am rapidly getting tired of the auschwitz forum board and will more than likely be banned shortly.
No, I'm not asking myself about Wiploc's decision to move this thread. I find it an interesting discussion because of my mathematical background. It is not, however, true philosophy. It is a misunderstanding of a mathematical concept. Additionally, you have phrased your post in such a way that you do not allow any discussion of the topic, and your topic itself is not well stated.

Now... If you would kindly reread my post, you may see that I have already addressed the difference between numerals (a symbol representing a concept) and a number (an abstract and well defined concept). A set of numerals would be a set of symbols, not a set of numbers. A set of numbers is a set of concepts. I could use the following two sets to both represent the set of primary primes: A = {1, 2, 3, 5, 7} and {@, %, &, $, #). I have simply used the SYMBOL @ instead of the SYMBOL "1".

If you would care to define your terms better, and to support your statements, then perhaps this thread will be returned to the philosophy forum. As it stands, your comment about "A set of numbers is clearly not a set of numbers simply because we have lost the property of succession which distinguishes numbers from mere numerals" makes no sense. If you wish to discuss this topic, please rephrase and clarify your stance instead of attacking the moderators. I am considerably more interested in the topic at hand than I am in your hurt feelings.

Cool Again, ignorance wants enlightment,

engaged members, I am baffled by your arguments on philosophy, your mathematical implications leaves me unable to fathom your briefs on philosophy,I define philosophy as thought directly on life, and the living of the life discussed, how does a set of particular numbers change or imply direction,? I understand all things can be mathematically integrated, somehow, but how does mathematics change or direct direction,? about Life,? :banghead:
