Talking Necrophilia among ducks ruffles research feathers

Necrophilia among ducks ruffles research feathers

Quote:
The strange case of the homosexual necrophiliac duck pushed out the boundaries of knowledge in a rather improbable way when it was recorded by Dutch researcher Kees Moeliker.

It may have ruffled a few feathers, but it earned him the coveted Ig Nobel prize for biology awarded for improbable research, and next week he will be recounting his findings to UK audiences on the Ig Nobel tour.

Ducks behave pretty badly, it seems. It is not so much that up to one in 10 of mallard couples are homosexual - no one would raise an eyebrow in the liberal Netherlands - but they regularly indulge in "attempted rape flights" when they pursue other ducks with a view to forcible mating. "Rape is a normal reproductive strategy in mallards," explains Mr Moeliker.
Not sure why I started this thread really! Any suggestions?!

I saw three ducks trying to rape a female duck once. I got between them and the female. The males backed off because I made it clear I was going to hurt them. The female runs around me quacking at them and goes past them so they can chase her away from me.

Some girls that were with me started laughing and said "looks like she wants the attention and you're interupting it."

I was pissed at that duck.

Did these researchers consider the fact that perhaps some ducks have rape fantasies?

In South Florida we are plagued with Muscovy Ducks.

At my condo there are currently 2 males who much prefer sex with each other over available females.

Not that there's anything wrong with that . . .

Well, I guess all these homosexual ducks are going to have their chance to roast in hell...

...providing yet one more reason for hell being not so bad. Now, if pigs get sent to hell to roast for eternity too, I am SOOO there. I've heard that the longer you cook meat, the better it tastes....so if it roasts for all eternity, that's gotta be some damn good eating!
