Default Secularists are wimps

The President has been "Testing" the waters of how secular our nation has become, because the War on Terror is a religious war.

Last year he backed off on his use of scripture in his speeches, because Christians criticized the rhetoric. Before that he imposed the Faith based intiatives by executive order with no problem. The homosexual marriage issue is another example of his attempt to gauge the religiousity of America.

He is concerned that if our nation becomes anymore secular, he will loose considerable support for military action. Notice how the more secular countries refused military involvement. Notice how the fundamentalist religious organizations are more willing to die for their ideological causes.

Don't think that's true, because Pat Tillman is a dead atheist?

I was in the Navy. I was not an atheist, only because there was no designated community of such. I maintained a Catholic designation, but attended church maybe twice during my four year enlistment. I was not religious.

Basically, what I am asserting is that the incidence of atheists in the military is somewhat true to the axiom, because why die for some ideology if there is no afterlife?...Notice how the use of sexual satisfaction in the afterlife motivates the Islamics.

Could you please restate your post in the form of an argument?

Or, if it's just an observation, would you mind making it a little less opaque?

Thanks.

For someone who claims to be atheist you sure have lot of theistic notions and misconceptions, usartist.

Something smells like cheese, I wonder if it is cheese?

Obviously King Rat senses an argument, but he is unable to articulate one.

I come across as a theist, because I recognize the adherence a person must exercise in order to promote ones ideology.

Atheists are irrelevent untill they amass an organization, and I think it is defined in the First Amendment. The individual is not defined in the "Social Contract" of the Constitution, rather groups are defined as "Religions."

And a group of atheists promoting a common ideology is a religion.

Just as a group of theist promoting their ideology is a religion

Ummm, this is your thread usartist, perhaps you were trying to assert something? If you are just passing on data, a link would be nice.

Welcome to your own thread, take a look around, make yourself comfortable, say something...

It's "The World According to usartist", TollHouse. White is black, black is polka-dotted yellow...what's not to understand?

This thread really doesn't fit into PD. I'm not sure where to put it. I think it's Elsewhere material.

Coming from India I am personally aquainted will all types of BS (both granular and non-granular). Now "secularists are wimps" is ummmm.... wrong because of Stalin and Pol Pot both of whom engaged in distinctly unwimpy activities of both internal brutality and external (aganist other countries) agression. Many have died for ideologies themselves... often the after life is just to sweeten the deal. In fact many have died for ideologies so that they could be immortalized by their country/people. Also fundamentalists is a poor choice of words; in fact while there have been attacks on aborition churches and gays there has been no widespread violence of Christian zealotry. Islam has so many people willing to die because their fundmentalists tell feed them propoganda and because they have very poor lives. Anyway I hope this is what you're talking about because your post is very vague. (Also I believe the term is "Muslims" rather than Islamics, which sounds like an new form of tightening ones buttocks)

Well,.......ummmm,.....that was then, when a dictator could control a vast group of people.

You failed to address why the contemporary, more secular nations, have abstained from military involvement in the effort to eliminate terrorism and dictatorships?

It's difficult to make the argument that there are atheists in foxholes, if they are not distinguished as such.
