Default God doesn't cooperate with double-blind studies!

I thought I'd share a memorable conversation I had with my dad (a pastor) about a year ago. I thought you might find it amusing, if you have theists in your family you'll understand what I mean.

Quote:

My dad: I'll be praying that you'll be doing well on your finals next week.

Me: Could you pray for just one?

My dad: What do you mean?

Me: I have three finals, physics, calculus, and chemistry. How about you write down one of them and put it in an envelope, then pray for just that one? After I get my grades back, we can open the envelope and see if it had any effect. You know, a double-blind study. The two tests you don't pray for can be the control group. I'll study for all the tests equally, and I won't know which one you're praying for, so I can't mess with the results.

My dad: (pause) God doesn't cooperate with double-blind studies. He'd know what you're trying to do.

Simply another Christian (your dad) displaying a stunning lack of faith.

Heh heh. Yeah he'd know what you were trying to do. Use prayer.

That's priceless.

But I bet if your classes were Physics, Chemistry, and Basic Cooking 101 he would have taken you up on it!

Hey I had plenty of friends in college who were majoring in Phys or Chem who couldn't tell a garlic press from an apple peeler!

I'm one of those people as well, so I think I'd do a lot worse on the cooking 101 final

My garlic press and apple peeler both look remarkably like a hammer.
