Another omnivore here. I'm in what would be considered a southern state. Bring on the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and cream gravy.

That reminds me, I gotta go exercise.

Default I am

Vegetarian for the last 20 years.
There are a number of reasons that I choose it personally, the cruelty of the industry is a big one.
The variety of vegetarian foods is another.
I am not "down" on anyone for choosing to eat meat. Each of us has options and makes our own choices.
My daughter has been vegetarian from well...conception...she has tried chicken and fish and didn't like it. she knows she can try it if she wants but doesn't choose to. (she's 8)
My husband became vegetarian after we spent a week at his relatives in Scotland. His uncle had recently gotten out of hospital from bypass surgery and they were still eating everything fried in fat. "(eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, bread.) There was always so much meat. He could choose to eat meat but he likes my cooking and finds he doesn't miss it. He's been a non-meat eater for aprox 10 years.
Anyway that's my scoop.

I do eat meat, but not very much or often. Maybe once a week. I also buy free range, organic meat whenever possible -- have recently discovered a happy-cow farm that does mail order, hooray.

I do feel sorry for the poor beasts. That fish really, really doesn't want you to whomp his head on the dock. I try to keep my meat consumption conscious -- my default setting is vegetarian.

I am, however, a fool for bacon.

Default Slowly Leaving Meat

I would just drop meat, but I cannot due to health reasons. It is not safe to go "cold turkey" as I might have to spend more time on the toilet than I would prefer-- can't afford all that toilet paper!

My desired diet would be pecsetarian. Fish, shell fish, eggs, milk, yogurt, nuts, grains, beans, rice, fruit, and vegetables. My next job may be at a seafood plant starting in Febuary, and I could get number 2 grad fish (fish that has blemishes, cuts, and other imperfections) for less than hamburger at employee prices. Ironically most seafood processors and commercial fisherpersons prefer red meat to fish. McDonalds over a sockeye fillet?

What is an omnivore? Like a carnivore? Color me clueless.

Omnivore is a combination of a carnivore and a herbivore. In essence, eating both meat and non-meat.

i'm curious as to why some people are proud of eating meat. it's just a choice that certainly doesn't require any particular skill, courage or ability, so what's to be proud of?

I had a 22 ounce 1.5 inch thick piece of prime rib, done medium rare, and dipped in a savory ou jus sauce for dinner tonight. It was delicious. After all that food, and a nice full belly... I wanted some more. It was that good. And I didn't even feel guilty, not in the slightest.

God yes. I'm not a freak about it. Steak is okay, but not my favorite. I also don't like white chicken meat that much. But I really could not live without sausage or hamburger. Or bacon. Or ham. Or fish. Or... etc. I really should eat more vegitables, but besides potato and corn, I don't care for them too much.

Now I want some bacon.
