Scripture: It is written, I believe it (unless it's written in the wrong holy book in which case it's a lie) Science: It is written, I want to know if it's actually true Scripture: this is a cherished belief, it shall not be questioned! Science: why believe in things that can't stand up to scrutiny? If you believe in a true thing, how could it fade away if anyone checks it? Scripture: my cherished beliefs are beyond question, your cherished beliefs are wrong (but it's mean to question my beliefs so don't do it - only I'm allowed to question the beliefs of others) Science: my theories are no better or worse than yours - what matters is what has evidence to support it Scripture: I will kill to defend my belief, even if it's a lie Science: I'll work with you to find out what is real, even if I was wrong Scripture: what matters is being certain that I'm know The Truth(TM) even if I'm wrong Science: what matters is being honest, even if it means admitting to my mistakes Scripture: I know the truth! Science: I'm humble enough to accept my own limitations. You know, I can understand why some people find science absolutely terrifying. I can still feel sorry for people who can't deal with reality, though. |

Dev, you should know better.
Scripture claims to be Complete, Unassailable, Unchanging Truth. Science is a scaffold, a framework on which we build up truth, cutting and fitting, and tearing out and replacing the parts which don't fit. It is a pattern for asking effective questions, and saving the most effective answers. It's never Complete, Unassailable, Unchanging. |

But "Truth" of course sounds so much more provocative, don't you think? |

It has nothing whatsoever to do with my background, it is merely a logical conclusion. (Of course, if you deny all logic, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you...)
