I don't want to wish death on anyone, but it probably would have been a face-saving move for the Vatican if JP2 had retired a couple years ago.
He has been an interesting pope, though, even if many of his policies are total :banghead: |

The BBC has an article showing that the Catholic Church is already preparing for JP2s departure from this mortal coil: Pope expected to be pushing up daisies soon |

A significant factor in the matter of one's having-Parkinson's appears to be that the medications used in palliative(?) treatment of the disease may or do *induce (further) dementia* as a side-effect.
On the other hand, it appears that altho many human beings turn on to *The Pope* as somekind of pop-rock personality, not too many RCs care about, nor obey, his various doctrinal positions , e.g. about contraception & abortion. |

I agree wholeheartedly. As an ex-Catholic, I expected the head of the Church to be a little less ego-driven and admit that his stay is a detriment to the Church. |

He has Parkinsons. It could go on for many years. There are all sorts of nuances that could occur such as dementia or even conditions where its hard to tell if he has dementia or not. I'm sure those near to him know if he has dementia or not. If you get Parkinsons when you're older, it progresses very slowly. Unlike getting it younger like Michael J. Fox. Unfortunately! |

I wouldn't mind seeing a new pope who is a clone of this pope, because JP2 is about as liberal as a pope can get. (shrieks in horror) I think that there is going to be a lot of pressure in the RCC to elect a more conservative pope.
