Untrue as any New Testament scholar can prove to you (especially Bultmann who attributes all of the Synoptic material to a Palestinian origin).
To New Testament scholars wearing the latest "Christian Glasses"
all one needs to see are the "Early Christians". When the "CG's" are
removed we find that the milieu was Hellenistic. The new testament
was not written in Palestinian, but Greek. Its audience was neither
the jews or the Palestinians, but rather the Greeks. See for example
"The Second Sophistic".

Hundreds of books being written within a few decades in response?
Correct. In response to the Nicaean New Religion decree
by the fascist Pontifex Maximus Constantine, and the edicts
that the only religious preveliges are reserved for christians.

No historical, direct attacks on Christianity?
Emperor Julian wrote a treatise "Against the Christians".
He also legistlated that they be legally known as "Galilaeans".
These direct attacks were censored by Cyril.

Thousands simply took up another religion under cover as a response?
Constantine and his successors gave the people of the empire no choice.
It was either become christian or flee to the refuge of the desert.
Thousands selected the second option.

Default Julius Caesar's "Pearl of Great Price" cost six million sesterces

An Imperial Roman Story of the Pearl of Great Price

Clearly this story must have been around BCE, since it relates
to the activities of Julius Caesar whom, Suetonius (Lives, 50)
tells us of an historical event where Julius Caesar
"bought a pearl costing six million sesterces" for Servilia.
Did the authors of the new testament gospels
have Julius Caesar's "Pearl of Great Price"
in mind when they cast the parable of the pearl
into the mouth of the Historical-Or-Otherwise Jesus?
