Default Baaaaaa, Baaaaaa, Baaaaaaaah!

OK maybe this belongs in the Joke forum, I dunno. If so, feel free to move it. An article about Billy Graham's last crusade in this morning's News & Observer (Raleigh) just about made me spray my morning coffee out my nose, when I came across this quote by the ecumenical octogenarian. "We're like sheep. We've gone astray."

Really, and this is news? :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

Yeah, but at least he recognized it...
I think Billy is a good man. I wish him well...He's about to die...
Godspeed Billy...Godspeed... :notworthy

It's actually a biblical quote, when a Christian says that the humans of the world are like sheep gone astray. Obviously that's not the kind of comparison that makes Christianity seem attractive to us in the present day, but other than that, I don't see anything funny about it.

Default Billy

One of the things that bothered me most growing up a catholic was the regular references to me being part of a flock of sheep - unthinking, unquestioning, following the rests of sheep passively.

I'm sure Billy is disappointed that people like me simply do accept the tripe in the bible like a sheep accepts the commands of the shepherd. My local paper runs a Billy Graham advice column, people write in problems, Billy responds with religious platitudes. It is really quite sad.

I only hope more people stray from the flock.

You must have been watching a different Billy Graham than the one I was. I'm thinking about the SOB Fuller Brush salesman who attached himself to the White House and spent decades attacking Atheists and the seperation of church & state. I'm glad to see him gone.

Maybe you are thinking about Billy Graham the music promoter, he was a good guy

The worse thing about Billy Graham is that he thinks he is cool, comes onto this Board, and liberally sprinkles his Posts with cake decoration loads of philosophical and other terminology he obviously does not understand - thinking we're stupid enough to be impressed.

Biff,
I never followed Billy Graham nor did I ever go to any of his gatherings.
I don't agree with following any religion.
But I can see the man as honest with himself and among all those who preach
he seems like the most sincere. I say "seems"...I don't know him personally.
Do I buy his religious tooth brush? No.
Do I wish him well in his coming transition? Yes

He was sincere all right; sincerely nasty. Where do you think that Bush Sr got the idea that Atheists could not be good American citizens? Graham.
I'm glad to see him go and have no good wishes for him at all. The world will be a better place with him out of play.

You did?

Ok,let me look into it...Do you know any particular quote or site where I could "get" his way of thinking?
I always though the guy was better than someone who would say that atheists could not be good american citizens...
I am an atheist, and an american citizen, and I'm darn good, so what the heck??
In fact I would even say that atheists make BETTER americans! :Cheeky:
cause they would not be attached nor bias to any particular religious doctrine
making for a more rounded democratically oriented individual.
Religion invariably wants to get involved in politics and I see that as very un-american...I believe firmly in the complete separation of Church and State.
