Lets see the two men running for president are distantly related. What could expain this. It could be a bizzarro conspiracy. Not a bad reason I guess.

Oh wait maybe it's because the simple fact is in this country only rich, well conected, white, men will be elected president. They would each have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000,000 ninth cousins. Factor in the other qualifiers and it's really suprising they aren't closer

And the non-mysogenists will counter, "er, no, it was Noah's wife" (say what was her name? Is that important? The mother of all mankind? Nah, not important :Cheeky: )

My mother is Italian so I'm pretty sure I have a Roman emperor or two in my background (and maybe even a Pope!).

Sorry, here's a slightly better link:

I'm surprised myself, wouldn't have thought 3500 years would be enough. There was something in the NPR report on how the Tasmanians were one of the few groups disconnected from the line, and somehow that supported the model. I haven't read it thouroughly yet either, I'm just reporting the info as I hear it.

I know Steve Olson actively refuted creationism in his last book on mapping human ancestry.

This article is about a statistical model of genetic inheritence.

I guess the OP is suggesting that lineage is more important than what an individual brings to the table. In theory you could have two brothers running against each other, with different agendas. I'm not totally dismissing that family and other connections aren't important to look at in a politician, but it's not high on my scale of judging the value of a candidate.

This brings to mind a recent comment by someone else about how the depiction of a Presidential candidate as an elitist shouldn't be the negative image it's made out to be, that the leader of the U.S. SHOULD be our best and brightest, with connections, so long as he uses those abilities for the good of the country (which falls back to my point on individuality and character). Maybe there are certain lines of families that excel in leadership roles. It's likely you'd find family lines that never have been in positions of power, perhaps just through happenstance or bad luck, but maybe also due to the lack of something that's needed to lead the populous.

I think the OP is an interesting topic, I just question its importance so far as making a decision on who to vote for this election.
