IMO, and contrary to another poster, possibly in another but similar thread of

I think it should be mentioned, since we're talking about name popularity, that 'Yĕhowshuwa' is generally translated as 'Joshua' and it was the Greeks and later English speakers who changed it into Jesus. Judging by my reading of the bible Joshua doesn't seem to be a very rare name.

(for clarity what I'm saying is technically that means the bone box says "brother of Joshua"- probably not that uncommon)

"Jesus" comes from latin "Iesus" which comes from Greek "Iēsoûs" which is used for the Hebrew "Yehoshua" which in English is "Joshua".

Yehoshua means "YHWH saves" or "YHWH is salvation" or "YHWH is my saviour".

Based on the Exodus story, a repeated bit of text is the notion of how "YHWH saved" the "children of Israel" in bringing them out of Egypt.

All the names on the ossuary were common in the 1st century. Josephus mentions several Jesus's in his writings.

Edit: Dang, Dudely beat me to it.
