I'm waiting for someone to say that Mary means: "she who will give birth to a god."

Not quite. Though name etymology is often speculative, there have been a couple possibilities suggested for Mary.

In the bible, the name Mary first appears in the form of Miriam, the sister of Moses. It has been speculated then that it may be of Egyptian origin from the term "mry" meaning "beloved".

If the etymology is strictly from the Hebrew, it is usually thought to stem from the Hebrew "Marah" meaning "bitter" and possibly "rebellious". Thus in the book of Ruth, Naomi says, ". . .call me not Naomi, call me Mara."

A somewhat imaginative translation:

Sodom - burnt or scorched - Burntville
Gomorrah - heap - Rubbleheap
King Bera of Sodom - son of bad - Mr. Wicked
King Birsha of Gomorrah - son of mischief - Mr. Mischief
