Well, the author of the canonical Gospel of Luke didn't write it from scratch. He took a pre-existing document (probably several) and redacted it. The redactor of Luke then wrote Acts (or at least most of Acts).

This means that much in the gospel of Luke was not originally written by the author of Acts.

An interesting possible candidate for the author of Acts is Polycarp.
