Oh my, when have Buddhism become influenced by Christianity in the west?

Well, tell them that "Truth is self-evident, only lies need to be propaganda". If they still dont get it, just tell them to "get a life".

Leaving sutras in telephone booths? Well, that is "nice" of them to treat good books.

My despise order (from most hated to most tolerated):

Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Neo-Paganism Buddhism, non-aligned god-type beliefs.

In a knockout tie-breaker for first place, Christianity beats Islam because they're the ones I deal with daily.

Hate is an awfully strong word. Let's use "disapprove of" instead.

It's difficult for me to choose which religions I disapprove of the most. Christianity might look worse to me than other religions simply because "familiarity breeds contempt" (or disapproval).

Quote:
Mine are Christianity ("surrender to Christ") and Buddhism ("eliminate desire"). Both are the most boring, moralistic and reactionary religions that are popular in the West (Buddhism being the smallest of the two obviously).
I've never encountered a particularly moralistic Buddhist before, but maybe they are moralistic in the East?

I used to think that Buddhists preached an end to desire, but after talking with Buddhists it seems to me that they are merely preaching an end to obsessive desire. IOW, an end to excessive clinging to desires, similar to what the Stoics had argued for. This is not a bad message, IMO.

My problems with Buddhism have more to do with the anti-reason attitude that is especially noticable in Zen Buddhism, and the endless bashing of the concept of "self", which I think is more valuable than they seem to give it credit for.

I dislike all religions equally, but I have a profound distate for Islam and Christianity. Both fill people's heads with utter nonsense.

This sounds great on paper and gives the impression that the writer is a well balanced and noble person. Fact is you can't oppose a relition or a belief. You must oppose people. Without the person there is no belief. Without the person there is nothing to dislike or hate or love or whatever. It is the person that makes it possible.

I guess as a holdover from my former Christian status I cannot use the word hate. But I do dislike the Fundamentalist forms of Christianity the most. Next comes Islam which scares the hell out of me. I don't think I dislike any other religions, but haven't investigated or been in contact with much besides Christianity and Islam.

Christianity and Islam except the most progressive sects which since they don't bother me, live and let live. Misguided Wiccans rank high also on the list...

Fundamental Christianity and Islam because many of the adherents are some of the most closed minded, condescending, anti-rational and intolerant people I have ever met. I'm indifferent to other religions though.

Thanks Magic Browser- 'guess it doesn't count as a religion, but definitely Scientology.'

I was reluctant to put this in but adding my two penneth...

I agree, because I saw at first hand what they produce, and it involved a weird young apprentice, degenerating monthly until one night he viciously raped a young woman in an outer London conurbation's park. I leave the location out, to protect the young woman. But even now I'd like to get my hands on him many years later. But that's not justice and I would only be descending to his level. 'Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord...'

I hate Satanism the most, which puts self-interest and private gain over everything else.
