Default I'm an atheist and government is my god.

Government is the foundation of all morality and ethics. Not a mythical deity.
All our moral principles are established by we the people in the form of our government. Not by some mythical deity.
There is a growing disregard for government in the land today. Many have convinced themselves that government is an enemy. But they are wrong.
We are the government and the government is us.
The government is what we make of it. Nothing more. And there is no more virtuous human concept than government. Because an expression of the love of government is an acknowledgement that we love humanity. And that we respect all that is good about humanity.
Without government by definition there is chaos and anarchy and the absence of civilization. Without government we are only animals. It's our government which gives us our character, our dignity, our selflessness and our virtue.
Not deities.

Well if you think this is an interesting topic then why did you edit your reply and make my reply to your original reply look foolish?
This is not a joke (which by the way is becoming painfully obvious). I firmly believe that government is better than any god.

Okay. This thread is now over. And I won't need to be flamed or disciplined by a moderator.
I'm now aware that this thread was a temporary lapse of good judgment.
It doesn't belong in this forum or anywhere else on this website.
And I hope that a moderator will now delete it so that I can avoid further embarassment.
My only defense is that this thread resulted from my being subjected to mindless 9-11 conspiracy theory drivel for now going on a whole damn year with no let up. And because of that I guess I just snapped.
I'm not excusing myself. Just trying to explain myself.
And I promise that this will never happen again. You have my word on it.

Default Government the foundation

Your thread isn't nonsensical - even though i don't agree with it.

Quote:
Government is the foundation of all morality and ethics. Not a mythical deity.
This is not true. Thought is the foundation of all morality and ethics. Even the folks that say they get their morality and ethics from holy books put thought in to what they believe and often arrive at their beliefs before finding confirmation in scripture.

Government is a maintainer of laws. Laws are the result of the morality and ethics of the society that create those laws, even when the society that creates those laws is a very small subset of the society as a whole.

The fundamental problem of government is that does not inherently serve the best interests of people - it serves the best interests of itself and sometimes the best interests of those that are directly responsible for the running of the government.

After making this determination - it becomes incumbent of the citizens of any government to take action when the government does things that are not in the best interests of society as a whole.

Often though, subsets of society rise up and kick the government in to activities that benefit that subset of society and are detrimental to other subsets of society. An example of this would be a hypothetical scenario where all homes in a country were required to own and display prevelently a holy book of a religion of the majority of the society, when not all members of the society belong to that religion.

I'm sure we could take this in to other areas of separation of church and state.

In the end, the government is the creator and observer of laws. Arguably, you could say that a certain president has avoided some laws of late. But on the whole he is just one individual and he hasn't gone around disobeying all the laws of our government, just the ones that he finds inconvenient.
