"Serious archaeologist" equates with someone who actually digs... and who is not relegated to the "fringe" by the larger community of researchers.

Vorkosigan, can I ask why you think it's a fake?

Of course any reference to David doesn't prove he existed- but this is within 150 years of when he is supposed to have lived. Whoever wrote the inscription was writing about a political figure about as far removed in time from them as Abe Lincoln is from us. Roman literature dealing with Romulus and Remus is 500+ years removed from the actual founding of Rome.
