Does something have to be absolutely free from all error to be true? This is not mathematics we're talking about, nor deductive logic, but more like history and poetry.
God's owner's manual? Surely you jest. I am willing to bet that you do not take any of your dietary or medical advice from the Bible, and the odds are you don't follow the Bible's rules on sex and marriage. I am also pretty sure that you do not follow Jesus' advice on economics. Certainly most people who call themselves Christians ignore all that.

Once you get beyond a few simple rules that can be found in many traditions, such as the Golden Rule or don't murder your neighbor, there isn't much in the Bible that is at all helpful as an owner's manual.

Do you know any atheist who was converted by reading the Bible? Many have become atheists by reading the Bible, but it seems inconceivable to me that someone could actually read the Bible and believe that it is divinely inspired.
Hmm, C.S. Lewis. His autobiography is quite interesting.[/QUOTE]

C.S. Lewis misread the gospels. He decided that they must have been written by simple, uneducated fishermen who couldn't even write decent Greek, so they must have been too stupid to make things up.

He converted to Christianity because he had friends who were Christians, and he talked himself into thinking that there must be something to Christianity. But I sincerely doubt that he would have converted if the Bible were his only influence.
