Do any of the complainers ever even try to go to other boards? They pale in comparison compared to this one.

Go ahead, try.

Very amusing thread. The agressive tearing down should not be mistaken for insults. If your ideas can survive at IIDB, they can pretty much survive anywhere. As judge would put it, we also give ourselves uppercuts - not just the rookies who come here expecting to be handled with kidgloves.

So yes, even if you provide "evidence" it has to be torn down - if possible. If your argument can survive the tearing down, then it is truly robust. If you are a rookie, of course you come and introduce yourself as a rookie exploring an idea. If you are a rookie and you present an argument as if it is solid, expect the argument to be subjected to a most rigorous, relentless and unforgiving rebuttal which you should be able to counter.

And if you have a weak heart or ego, there are several fundy forums that are into feel-good be-happy messages. This forum has to be known as a definitive forum for B C & H that does not tolerate lame theories or pamper sacred cows. Anything is game for shooting down. It is up to you to make sure your arguments stay airborne because we dont normaly provide parachutes when weak arguments come down to crash and burn.

AFAIK, this is the best forum on planet earth. Keep it up guys.

People seem to come to BC&H for numerous reasons. Those who come because they are confused often get less confused. Those who come because of the ravages of religion often find solace. Those who want to know something often get to know. Those who seek stones to throw at christian glass don't go away empty handed. Those who come here looking for an argument usually get it.

Good advice here Pilate is never to put your soul into the argument. It just is not for sale, and for this you only need to be on top of your argument as if it was an out of body experience. If you get wet, so what. You just hang it out to dry and you'll look better for it afterwards. At least, you will have learned something.

Now, if you do not believe in a soul you have a lot to learn and if you don't have one you it cannot get wet.

What movement would this be?

The confrontatnional approach does not work. We need to institute an approach that promotes cooperation; an approach that builds our common ground.
This is a debate forum, not a consensus building one.

Unity would defeat the purpose of a debate forum, don't you think? Strength is not lacking here.

You, all of you, should not make judgement calls as to who deserves to be "torn apart in a viva" and who doesn't (i.e. if we disagree with him, he deserves it). No one deserves to be "torn appart," not even the ignorant. And if you see someone being torn appart, don't be tempted to "kick him," too. This is mobbing. I tell you, you will not gain many converts doing this.
Clivedurdle is certainly in a position to say whether he deserved it or not.

I don't think that gaining converts is the purpose of this particular forum.

Again, our motto is:"chase them all away! We want to be alone!"

If this thread wasn't so forum-specific, I would move it but it is so I'm just locking it. If you want to continue to discuss posting behavior, take it over to the Lounge or the Conference Room.
