				 | Big Boy

Hello everyone. I understand that many parents chose to refer to their child as a "big boy" or a "big girl". Despite the superficial appearance of the term, I am not talking about obese children. Rather, I am referring to the vertical increase in height, as that is the message that the parent usually intends to convey. The utterance of "big boy" or "big girl" is usually preceded by a significant event that the child has undertaken. The parent may use this term to comfort their children and give them a sense of happiness and pride, which are regarded as generally positive emotions. From this fact alone, we can conclude that the difference between a "small child" and a "big child" is not a scientifically measurable trend. Rather, it is more commonly used to give children psychological benefits such as happiness and pride. However, the exact moment at which a child becomes "big" is arbitary and impossible to accurately determine, as mass does not increase in sudden increments. Rather, the increase of the relative mass of the child is a gradual process and the mass of the child correlates with the physiological age of the child. Therefore, the distinction between a "small boy" and a "big boy" is impossible to determine under a scientific context. Another interesting aspect of this behaviour is that the term is usually preceded by a significant development milestone. For example... A one year old girl learns to speak. A three year old boy learns to read and write. A five year old boy attends school. A twelve year old boy graduates from elementary school. A sixteen year old girl obtains her driver's licence. In practical situations, the examples shown above may be referred to as "big children". It is interesting to note that the relevance of the term depends on external factors rather than the physiological age of the child. I have developed the scientific equation above that allows the observer to determine whether a child is a "small boy" or a "big boy". It is important to note that a significant error margin may exist due to the method I have used to obtain the above equation. The following equation allows the observer to calculate the exact moment a "small child" becomes a "big child"... Therefore, I conclude that the concept of a "big child" is arbitary and irrelevant in a scientific context. I believe that the term is a cultural definition that is impossible to define or classify according to the scientific method. The term is not indicative of the direct mass of the child. Rather, it depends on the psychological age of the child and certain external factors that may be relevant to the situation. |

With these sort of things in your head I assume you are one of the few people who would be quite happy in solitary confinement.
