Humans take advantage of the "illness role" which is a benefit to being sick. This actually requires a social permission. I have seen physicians complain about how bad they felt to a receptionist hoping that the receptionist would tell them it was OK to go home. (I thought at the time it was too funny (and obvious) that the physician didn't ask a nurse). PS: I hope you feel better soon. If you don't- go see your MD. |

I remember when I flipped my bike and broke my collar bone, and somebody asked me if I was okay, I responded "Yeah, I think so", not realizing that my shoulder was six inches down the side of my body. Shock is a hell of a thing.
It might also have some pack survival advantage: non-life threatening injuries that attracted all the attention of the pack would decrease its awareness of external threats. Anybody know if chimps do the same thing? |
