At any rate, it is not upon encumbent upon skeptics to reasonably prove that there are contradictions in the Bible. At the very least, the Bible is needlessly confusing, which suggests that a loving God did not inspire it. For instance, Ezekiel said that God would give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar as a compensation for his failure to defeat Tyre. That did not happen. If a God inspired that claim, he could easily have inspired the writer to write the claim more clearly instead of in a confusing way. Regarding the supposed Ten Plagues in Egypt, if they happened, that would have been the end of Egypt as a superpower in the Middle East. That did not happen. Regarding the global flood, even some evangelical Christian geologists have stated that there was not a global flood.

The Bible says that God is not the author of confusion. I agree with that. The Bible writers were the author of confusion since they made up the Bible on their own.

Yes, there are contradictions and/or errors in the Bible, like 'the hare chewing the cud' or 'Peter denying Jesus 3 times before the @#%$ crowing twice'. The first is an error and the second is a contradiction.

But what I meant to say was that aren't nearly as many as I'd once thought. For years I'd heard about the hundreds of contradictions being in the Bible. This didn't worry me too much, since I'm a liberal theist.

I've only become a theist in the last few years, but I've always been a skeptic. So when I started to look into the claims of contradictions myself, I found that a vast majority simply weren't contradictions. They'd been listed about 100 years ago with little knowledge of the Bible, and passed on uncritically since then.

I've actually found a great deal of integrity in the Bible, which kind of frightens me! Still, I think it is important to look into these claims, though it is done more as a hobby than as a religious pursuit

So just what are some of the major errors/contradictions and are they or are they not as in error as they seem?
The book is called The Bible Handbook written in 1900 and has in it over 150 contradictions and is filled to 372 pages of absurdities, immoralities, indecencies and obscenities. These are in both the old and the new testament. To even consider the concept of a god concerned with humans is in itself absurd and is an indication of a weak and feeble intellect. To consider this book as any more important than paper is preposterous.

You can order the book at a very nominal price from www.atheists.org

I'll give you one such contradiction right out of the book. After that you're on your own.

In Genesis 1, God "saw it was good". The rest of the Bible contradicts this

True, Johnny, but we can take a certain amount of joy out of doing it, can't we?

The Centurion asking for Jesus' help is probably in the top 5 contradictions.

Two statements are contradictory if and only if it is logically necessary that one
statement be true and the other false.

The two statements:

1) I have been in Rome
2) I have never been in Rome

contradict one another. It is logically necessary that either 1) or 2) is true and the other false.
You do not need to know which is true in order to know this.

The two statements:

1) I went to Rome last year
2) I have never been in Rome

are not in contradiction. It is logically possible that both statements might be false, such
statements are called contraries.

Peter.

You are precisely correct. But in the imprecise loosey goosey vernacular, it's common to use the term 'contradict' to mean 'both statements can not be true'. This is the sense in which I view the OP.

Who 'motivated' David to count people who could handle a sword?

2 Samuel 24 - Goddidit
1 Chronicles 21- Satandidit

How many did he count?

2 Samuel 24 - 800,000 men in Israel and 500,000 in Judah.
1 Chronicles 21 - 1,100,000 men in Israel and 470,000 in Judah.
