Perhaps people have an animosity towards God because He first expressed an animosity towards us. Actually all three of the Abrahamic deities seem to have a hatred of human beings. They look down upon us and try to instill in human beings self-hatred and loathing. Our dislike of them is well deserved.

As a fictional character I don't think he is as interesting as Zeus or Shamash. As a literary device he is kind of ham-fisted and one dimensional compared to other archetypes.

God doesn't exist, ergo I hate him.
I do however detest the idea of god foisted about by a lot of folks. You know, the god who exists merely as an excuse for its followers to act arrogantly, try to force their belief system on others, and whine about being persecuted while persecuting the daylights out of anyone different, and the like. God doesn't bother me, it's many of her followers that scare and disturb me. I think you'll find this a common enough sentiment amongst many atheists. |

I never understood why "G-d" was somehow more pious that "God." Afraid of taking the name in vain? but, substituting the "o" with an "-" doesn’t really change that. Does it? ![]() |

What TySixtus said. I don't believe in God, but if he did exist, and if the Abrahamic religions were correct about his character, I wouldn't be too fond of the guy. He seems kinda like the worst boss in history.

I asked why would an omniscient being need to hear you say it out loud. Just make sure you say it out loud without the vowels, I guess. |

I don't hate any gods, since they are nonexistent. I don't hate individual followers of religion, though often I hate what some of them do in the name of religion. It is possible to argue that good things that have sometimes come out of religion. There we'd have to look at individual cases, but if a potential murderer is deterred form murder by religion, that can't be bad, and if someone takes comfort in religion when they are dying - well one can only feel sorry for anyone in that position. But I do hate much of what has been done in the name of religion - and expecially the three middle eastern religions. And it bugs me when people are brought up to believe superstitious, paranormal nonsense, because In my personal capacity as a human being who makes value judgements, I value truth. I see religion, generally, as a very bad thing, though some religions, and some interpretations of religion, are more pernicious than others. David B |

I actually do hate the Christian idea of god. I just started a new thread about the evil hopes and desires Christians harbor because of this gid/gad/god/ged/gyd/gud

Nature itself abhors a vacuum, no?
However, I don't hate any god, or any other mythical being for that matter. I do hate the things people might do cloaked in the name of some god, however. I just don't need an imaginary friend. When you become an adult you no longer need imaginary friends ... cg |
