Simple, good article outlining very clearly how Mark put his own views onto the lips of Jesus in this instance.

Some textual questions:

Obviously 5,000 copies is not very useful because we need "copies like the originals" and if we have no way of ascertaining the originals copies of copies prove little use. So...

What factors would lead to good textual standing?

Some questions:

1) number of initial copies an author is likely to make
2) medium (a formal work likely to be immediately copied?)
3) motive for altering a text
4) means must accompany motive as well.

Suppose we compare Plato to the Gospel of Mark.

How would the attestation fair for both in number and time?

Is Plato referenced earlier by other authors where we can check the citations with the current version?

Are Mark and Plato's writings similar in that both were equally likely to be edited?

Would Plato's works have been immediately copied and passed on, more so that the Gospel of Mark?

Was there any motive for altering the text pf Plato?

Was anyone in a position of power who could perform such a task?

What is the overall textual status of each?
